Five projects worth 6,479,128,132.00/- are in Morogoro municipality while the remaining worth 750,740,500.00/- are in Gairo District.

Morogoro District Commissioner, Regina Chonjo explained that one of the projects which includes construction of a water treatment and re-cycle plant worth 1.8bn/- is located at Mafisa ward, few kilometres from Morogoro town will help to improve sanitation and ensure availability of safe and clean water to the residents.

She said the plant will purify industrial water by removing chemicals. She said the water from various factories were previous not purified and channelled to residential areas.

She said the projects also include construction of a hotel whereby 150 people will get temporary and permanent jobs. She said the hotel to be owned by the government is expected to boost revenue collections since it will have conference halls, super markets and showrooms.

According to Chinjo, construction of the hotel has stood at 75 per cent. The cost of the project is 1.2bn/-, said the DC noting the aim is to curb the current shortage of five star hotels in the region.

The projects also include construction of the 21st century text mill which will among other things be used to make uniforms for the police force and army officers. The factory will also produce jerseys and several other outfits which are now imported from abroad. More than 150 locals have been employed at the industry.

Uhuru Torch national leader, Charles Kabeo commended three young entrepreneurs from Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) for establishing the Shambani Milk Project.

However, four classrooms worth 80m/- were inaugurated in Gairo District’s Chakwale "B" Secondary School.

Gairo District Commissioner, Siriel Mchembe said the district has been facing food shortage due to unreliable rains. He said the government has given them some seven acres of cassava seeds worth 2,500,000/- at Sanganjeru village.

The seeds according to him will be given to the villagers to enable them cultivate draught resistant crops.

“We are going to produce 672,000 cassava seeds which can be planted in 68 acres. Its only through cassava farming we can fight hunger in our district because the crop is resistant to draught compared to maize,” said Mchembe.

While in Gairo District, the Uhuru Torch leader also inaugurated other projects such as construction of women ward and laboratory room at Gairo health centre and the construction of Tanzania Rural Roads Authority (TARURA) offices. Free mosquito nets were also distributed to the villagers as part of efforts to combat malaria.
