Natural gas generators are fuelled by natural gas to produce electricity for the household, commercial and industrial needs. They have proved to be a useful back-up device for electricity provision when regular supply fails.
The call was made in Dar es Salaam by Flusshggas Anlagen (FAS), an oil and gas German-based company at the ongoing 2nd Oil and Gas International Exhibition which has attracted more than 28 countries.
“Natural gas is a cheaper fuel, makes running costs easier to meet as well, for example with 13 liters of gas in generator you can spend a month for normal consumption by operating 24 hours.” The FAS Managing Director Lutz Jeremias explained
He added that compared to diesel and oil, a natural gas generator was the cleanest because some fuels are associated with significant environmental pollution.
Fewer risks to health are associated with natural gas generator because it is non-toxic when inhaled in small amounts; It is not harmful to humans or animals, gas fueled generators also do not produce soot or ash.
The Director has also asked Tanzanian to use the gas generator because it is Eco-friendly as greenhouse gas emission of carbon dioxide is minimal with a natural gas generator; emissions of nitrogen and sulfur are also lower with a gas fueled generator.
He cited an example that Oil and coal fueled generators release ash particles into the environment which causes pollution, gas generators do not, it causes far less environmental pollution than some other generators on the market.
In comparison to oil and coal, the emissions of sulfur, nitrogen and carbon dioxide (a greenhouse gas) are considerably lower natural gas is one of the cleanest fossil fuels when it burns.
Natural gas generators are also effective in reducing costs when used to power homes. This is because electricity from the main utility source is a far more expensive alternative.
One significant disadvantage of a diesel generator is that it can be considerably expensive in comparison to other gas generators. However, since the maintenance cost of a diesel generator is quite low, it more than makes up for the initial investment.
Noise has always been an issue with regard to diesel generators with gas generators no noise pollution.
The FAS Officer told the Guardian that gas generator is more powerful compared to diesel generators due to the fact that it generates strong energy up to 50KW of power with multi component systems from two up 16 units flow up to 800 KW power.
The gas generator has also provided a room for the locals to effectively benefiting with the discovering of gas.
He added that gas generator has also the ability to work with Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) or natural gas. The generator has water cooled system so it has the ability to work in a long time without switched off.
