TPC Sugar determined to make the most of Kilimanjaro Marathon

WHEN one talks about Kilimanjaro Premium Lager International Marathon, he/she can never miss mentioning TPC Sugar, currently one of the race's long-time sponsors.

The TPC Sugar firm's sponsorship of the showdown has run for 15 years and the firm has now pledged a permanent allegiance to the international event.

During this year's race which happened almost a fortnight ago, the giant sugar company fielded over 400 participants.

The TPC Sugar Sales and Marketing Manager, Allen Maro, noted their sponsorship for the Kilimanjaro Marathon is now permanent as this is an event that has motivated employees to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

“We have been sponsoring this prestigious event for 15 years in a row now and it has been a great motivation to our staff and their families in general as the event continues to grow year after year,” he disclosed.

On preparations for the Marathon, he pointed out they had been training since November 2023, adding a special trainer was deployed to conduct the training hence preparing the participants, especially those that took part in the corporate challenge, well.

He went on to say that the marathon has given them the motivation to organize their fun runs and rides throughout the year.

“TPC has started its own Fun Run and Fun Ride and this involves employees and residents of Kilimanjaro and Arusha who take part in 21km, 10km, and 5km, races and the Fun Ride. All these are used as preparations for the Kilimanjaro International Marathon," he disclosed.

He further pointed out that the 2024 Kilimanjaro Premium Lager International Marathon helped TPC showcase the firm's corporate and product brands.

During this year’s event, Maro said TPC Sugar used the opportunity to introduce to the market new packs of 2kgs, 450g, and 200g in addition to the 1kg that many consumers are familiar with.

Still on this year’s plans, he noted the company has plans to launch the construction of an ethanol plant by using molasses which will be used to produce spirits, alternative energy in homes, and also as fertilizer.

According to the Sales and Marketing Manager, the new plant will create more employment and ensure the government saves on the foreign currency that is used to import ethanol into the country.

“We are looking forward to this project that will also greatly benefit area residents,” he stated.

There is more good news as the official pointed out that TPC Sugar also produces its power through baggase and the extra megawatts are sold to the national grid.

He congratulated all other sponsors led by Kilimanjaro Premium Lager (main sponsor) and Tigo -21km Half Marathon, Gee Soseji – 5 km Fun.

The official lauded the race's water table sponsors- Kilimanjaro Water, TotalEnergies, CRDB Bank, Simba Cement, and TPC Sugar.

The Sales and Marketing Manager moreover expressed his appreciation to Kilimanjaro Marathon's official partners including Garda World, CMC Automobiles, Sal Salinero Hotel, and suppliers – Kibo Palace Hotel and Keys Hotel.

Maro disclosed that it would not have been easy for the organizers to host the race without committed sponsors.

This year’s event was held at the Moshi Cooperatives University ground on February 25 from 6.30 am and brought together over 11,000 participants from more than 55 countries

The Kilimanjaro Premium Lager International Marathon is organized by the Kilimanjaro Marathon Company Limited and locally coordinated by Executive Solutions Limited.
