NBC launches graduate youth employability program

A programme to give graduate youth skills to get jobs easily or self employ themselves has been launched by National Bank of Commerce.

NBC board member, Dr. Kassim Hussein (right) delivers a speech during the official launching Wajibika youth employability program at University of Dar es Salaam’s Nkurumah Hall last Friday.

At a ceremony presided over by Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Youth and Employment), Anthony Mavunde last Friday in Dar es Salaam, NBC Board Member, Dr Kassim Hussein said the bank has a stake in youth employability hence the initiative.

“We are very pleased to have received the endorsement of TCU for the Wajibika programme, as this has enabled the smooth introduction and hence registration of students for the programme much easier,” said Dr Hussein

He pointed out that the Wajibika programme is mostly concerned with empowering Tanzanian youths with the required skills and knowledge to secure employment or become self-employed.

“We recognize that there is a virtuous link between society’s progress and our own success, and we therefore continually seek opportunities to be a good corporate citizen, and contribute to the societies in which we operate in a meaningful way,” the NBC board member noted.

The Wajibika program will empower young graduates with the necessary training and development they need to enhance their employment or self-employment prospects. The programme focuses to address the critical gap in youth’s lives when transitioning from education to work particularly among fresh graduates.

Currently available online, Wajibika will also be delivered through face to face coaching facilitated by NBC employees volunteering through a scheduled timetable which will be agreed with the selected universities and colleges.

The Wajibika programme has been endorsed by Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) and has already introduced the programme to 25 universities and colleges based in Dar es Salaam.
