It’s not all over yet as Stars will have to play the return leg against the same team on Monday. The victory in Ndjamena has earned the team its fourth point in the kitty but still trails Nigeria and Egypt who have not yet played their Day three game.
Nigeria and Egypt clash against each other in the Day three match to be played in Cairo tomorrow. Egypt are on top of the standings in the group G with six points after bright start of the quaklifiers having beaten both Tanzania and Chad.
The Monday match against Chad is again a must win for the hosts who should scale up the standings with seven points to rub shoulders with Egyot and Nigeria.
Only one team will earn a place in the continent’s premier nations cup championship to be hosted by Gabon next year.
Both Nigeria and Egypt are winners of the continental soccer with the later leading for snatching the title record seven times.
Tanzania has managed to feature in the championship for the first and last time in 1980 when Nigeria hosted and won the title.
The tournament was scheduled to be hosted by Libya, until CAF rescinded its hosting rights in August 2014 due to ongoing war in the country.
The tournament will instead be hosted by Gabon.
The 2017 African champion will qualify for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia. This event is also part of the Africa Cup of Nations 60th anniversary.
