Stakeholder faults Chaneta leadership

AS in the country’s netball game continues to dwindle in popularity and standard, some fanatics of the sport have questioned the competence of current CHANETA.

This was raised by Burton Sospeter who is sports teacher at Kakola A Primary School in Bulyanhulu in Kahama at the function to announce sports sponsorship between Acacia Company and Sunderland AFC of England.

The teacher who was in a ccompany his colleagues from Lake Zone area wondered as to why CHANETA leadership is not developing the sport in the country.

He said as netball continues to grow in popularity around the world, it is very agonisiing that people who were entrusted with the responsibility of taking the sport to new heights are the ones who are halting its growth.

“Here is a sponsor who want to support the growth of the game financially and technically, but our leaders who were supposed to be in the fore front are nowhere to be seen. Yes, they can not visit upcountry but even here in Dar es Salaam they have failed to turn out, are they serious ?”, asked the coach.

Sospeter also blames CHANETA for not putting efforts in youth and junior national teams’ projects which he said are merely competition-oriented.and build the players confident and skills.

He said at his school there are seven players who were for the Under 21 national team at the last year’s Primary School Games (UMITASHUTA) to compete at the world cup qualifiers in Botswana slated for July 23-30.

But up to now there is no communication from CHANETA, he blamed the development on running the national association as a personal business empire.

“There is nothing which they are doing, in the region where I come from there are many good players at primary and secondary schools, players who if well drilled they can excel at high level, but there is nothing we scout the players but the national association are no where to be seen

“I think all this is because CHANETA is being run as a personal business where one person controls everything, that person coaches, is treasurer, secretary general, umpire, administrator and even supporter, with that the game can not grow”, he said.

CHANETA officials, chairperson Anna Kibira who was reported sick for some time, yesterday could not be reached on her mobile phone when we wanted to know as to why they failed to attend the launch of two-year sponsorship by Acacia.

However, Kibira last year told this paper that CHANETA used the last UMISETA and UMITASHUMTA to identify players for the national Under 21 team that will compete at the Botswana World Junior qualifiers.

But only few months remaining before the start of the games there is nothing which CHANETA has done even the team has not been assembled to start preparations.
