The defeat means Planet will have to step up their game in the second match against Butimba Spiders, should the former wish to land a place in the playoffs.
Planet were expected to play Spiders on Sunday but the game, as disclosed by MBF secretary general, Shomary Almasi, had to be called off because of downpour.
The top four teams in the league’s standings are then expected to lock horns in the playoffs, whose dates have yet to be scheduled by the organisers.
Failure to secure qualification for the playoffs will turn out to be a huge blow to Planets, one of the most successful basketball outfit in the Lake Zone region.
The team, which boasts of experienced players in the likes of Kizito Bahati, Amri Mohamed, Amon Semberya and Benson Nyasebwa, had been tormenting opponents in the previous competitions with ease and go all the way to win top honours.
MBF has organised the league as part of efforts to realise effective promotion of the sport in the region.
The league had also involved Eagles Kiloleli, Bugando Heat, Bugando Warriors, Dolphin Pasiansi and Saint Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT).
The league also offers the region’s basketball players opportunity to shape up prior to taking part in Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) tournaments.
