Robertinho confident success will come at Simba SC

TANZANIA's Simba SC head coach, Robert Oliveira, alias ‘Robertinho’,  believes he is on the right course to guide the club to success in the 2022/23 CAF Champions League and 2022/23 NBC Premier League.

Robertinho cut a long smile at the post-match press conference after Simba SC’s win against Uganda’s Vipers SC in the 2022/23 CAF Champions League's Group C tie which took place in Kampala on Saturday evening, insisting his squad is getting better with time.

Against Vipers SC, center-back Hennock Inonga scored the winner for Simba SC in the first half, and an individual could tell just how much it meant to Simba SC and their coach, with the Brazilian tactician having joined the Congolese international in the latter's celebratory dance.

Inonga scored in the 20th minute, running on the blind side of a defender to boot the ball home at the back post after Zambian attacker Moses Phiri had nodded a cross into the defender's direction.

With the victory, Simba SC has climbed to third place in the Group C table with three points while Vipers SC languishes at bottom of the table, staying winless after three matches in their Group Stage debut.

The Simba SC tactician noted: “There is no easy game in the CAF Champions League... I congratulate my opponents because it wasn’t easy.”

Robertinho revealed: “It was a big derby. I changed our strategy this week and it was very positive for me, for us because I know my ex-club  has nice players, they start games with 4-3-3 so I used 4-4-2... this was positive for us because we scored one goal and lost two opportunities inside the box.”

“I am happy to win with a good performance, congratulations to my players, 1-0 in the CAF Champions League is the same as 3-0 or 4-0. I was champion in Rwanda, Uganda, CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals with Rayon Sports, and semi-finals in CAF Champions League. I have experience in the CAF Champions League that’s why Simba SC called me,” the tactician noted.

The Brazilian coach, who took over at Msimbazi Street outfit in January, had come under fire following a three-match winless run that included back-to-back defeats against Horoya Athletic Club and Raja Casablanca and then a 1-1 Premier League draw with Azam FC.

Following the victory in Kampala, Robertinho said that he is positive his club will perform better.

The tactician disclosed: “I am a positive man, you talk about the negative results but you don’t talk about the nice performance in the second half (against Horoya AC and Raja Casablanca).”

“I am happy that step by step, the players are understanding my style, I understand my players. I am building good relationships between players and coaches, so, I am very optimistic that we shall have consistency,” the Brazilian stated.
