Kagera Sugar set up camp in Uganda and played several international friendly matches including a clash against Uganda Premier League champion Vipers SC.
Recently, Kagera Sugar played two matches, one of which saw the outfit draw 1-1 with the newly-promoted top-flight outfit- JKT Tanzania- at the Fresho Complex Stadium in Shinyanga on July 29.
The Kagera side, then, played against Vipers SC at St. Mary's Stadium in Uganda on August 2 and lost 2-1.
The coach noted the camp has been of great benefit to them, including building a good bond and chemistry between his new players and their counterparts who were present at the outfit last season.
The tactician disclosed: "We are ready for the new season, I can't say we will be champions but our goal is to get good results in every game."
"I realize other teams are also prepared like us, the main thing is to wait to see the fruits of our pre-season camp," Mexime noted.
Mexime expressed satisfaction over the friendly matches, adding he has been impressed with the new players who have adapted to his system in a short time.
Kagera Sugar has recruited seven new players in a bid to strengthen the squad for the 2023/24 Premier League season.
Ally Masoud, Kagera Sugar's Secretary-General, disclosed that the newly recruited players have signed two-year contracts.
Newly signed players include winger Gasper Mwaipasi (Mbeya City FC), Zambian attacker Obrey Chirwa (Ihefu SC), attacker Abiudi Mtambuka (Mashujaa FC), Dickson Gideon, midfielders Cleophas Mkandala (Azam FC), Richardson Ng’ondya (Mbeya City FC), and Ally Ng’anzi.
Masoud confirmed they have parted ways with eight players- some of whom are Laurent Alfred, Yusuph Mhilu, Jackson Kibirige, Abeid Athuman, Yusuph Dunia, Meshack Mwamita, and Erick Mwijage.
Mwijage, a pacy winger, has since moved to FC West Armenia which features in the Armenian Premier League.
The Kagera Sugar leader further revealed that the registrations done by his outfit are part of a big plan to ensure that the team finishes within the top five spots at the end of the Premier League season.
He said that the Premier League is difficult, it needs good registration and great preparation to withstand the challenges of competition.
Masoud moreover bragged about what they have done so far, adding he believes their goal will be achieved in the coming season.
The leader noted: “We have done a good registration so far that is in line with the needs of the team, we are doing all that because the league is very difficult and this season we want to be among the top five teams."
"We believe our goals will be achieved if we put in the effort effectively, we will surpass the goal,” Masoud said.
