Congolese fullback in talks with Yanga to terminate contract

YASMIN Razak, the manager for Yanga’s Congolese right-back Djuma Shabani, has refuted rumours about her client’s departure from the club amid reports he has signed for DR Congo giant TP Mazembe.

Last year, Shabani signed a contract extension with Yanga, with the contract set to end in 2024 following his stellar display when he joined the club.

Yasmin revealed that his client- Shabani- is set to have meetings with Yanga’s leadership to see how he departs so that he can move to another team.

Such an agreement is expected to bring rumours that he signed for DR Congo’s TP Mazembe to an end.

Yasmin issued her comments after the player was neither announced nor included in Yanga’s list of foreign players sent to the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) for the next season.

She revealed despite being aware of the situation they have decided to have round table talks.

"Djuma is here in Tanzania, he hasn't signed for TP Mazembe and he doesn't have a team at the moment but he is in talks with his team because legally and contractually until now we say he is a Yanga player even though he is not on the list- for now- let's give this negotiation a chance to find ways to have the termination," Yasmin noted.

According to Yasmin the most important issue in the negotiations is how to end the uncertainty through the 17th article of the world soccer governing body (FIFA) on how to terminate the contract and pay each other compensation.

Congolese midfielder Yannick Bangala- who has joined Azam FC- and Shabani were both told not to continue playing for Yanga next season after failure to reach an agreement on contract extension while the players demanded to leave, with teams seeking to sign them by then having yet to be revealed.

Yanga resorted to opting out of including the two players in the side for the 2023/24 season as the outfit went in search of a new right back.

The Jangwani Street-based outfit secured the services of Ivorian fullback, 26-year-old Kouassi Attohoula Yao.

The club further received an offer for Bangala from Azam FC and that was why the Congolese duo was not introduced on Yanga's Mwananchi Day.

At the moment Shabani is set to leave as a free agent right after talks between him and Yanga's leadership on details for finalizing the contract termination.

Shabani was an integral part of Yanga's domestic treble triumph last season after catapulting the squad to clinching silverware in the Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC), NBC Premier League, and Community Shield.

The fullback grabbed his last goal for Yanga in the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup final rematch in Algiers, which witnessed Yanga confronting USM Alger of Algeria.

Yanga won 1-0 against USM Alger in the rematch but lost via away goal rule following the Jangwani Street outfit's 2-1 loss in Dar es Salaam.

Shabani had Yanga keeping alive hopes of clinching the CAF Confederation Cup silverware after he converted a penalty seven minutes into the rematch, stepping up and finishing calmly.
