Mayele eyes 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup Golden Boot accolade

Mayele was adamant that his club ought to put in a convincing performance whilst the attacker finds USM Alger's back of the net to have him win the top goalscorer's award.

The first leg is expected to take place at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday and a reverse match is slated for June 3 in Algeria.

Mayele is, alongside South Africa's Marumo Gallants striker Ranga Chivaviro, the current top goalscorers in the competition with six goals apiece.

The Congolese goal-getter, therefore, is better placed to clinch the Golden Boot at the end of the contest.

I am happy to be one of the top scorers in the CAF Confederation Cup because previously, I only managed to score three or four goals and had never netted six goals, I am grateful for my achievement this season, Mayele said.

He also pledged to score in the upcoming two-legged final encounters if he gets a chance while admitting that it has been a good season for him in domestic and international competitions.

Mayele, lately leading the NBC Premier League Golden Boot race with 16 goals, helped his club win the Community Shield, defend the Premier League title, and reach the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup final before earning his team a ticket to play in Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC) final.

The former DR Congo's AS Vita out-and-out striker scored an 84th-minute winner to earn Yanga a ticket to play in the ASFC final against Azam FC in Tanga.

He is therefore searching for a brace of Golden Boot awards of the campaign as he is too close to clinching the Premier League's top scorer prize as he lately enjoys 16 goals to his name with two matches to spare.

The 2022/23 season has been the best season in my career as it made me excel in domestic and continental level assignments, the attacker noted.

Mayele highlighted that this is a perfect season for him and his DR Congo teammates to win the CAF Confederation Cup.

The player pointed out: We narrowly missed it while playing at AS Vita, and this is another opportunity to win the title in Tanzania."

"It will be a historic achievement for all Tanzanian football and we will be happy to be part of it, Mayele said.

Without a doubt, this will remain Mayele's remarkable season of his football career based on the achievements he has so far gained which have propelled him to popularity in and outside Tanzania.
