Ibenge tips Yanga to win 2022/23 CAF CC

SUDANESE champions Al Hilal Omdurman's head coach Florence Ibenge has tipped Tanzania's Yanga to win the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup final against Algeria's USM Alger.

Florent Ibenge.

The two clubs will take on each other in a two-leg fixture scheduled to take place on Sunday and June 3.

Ibenge, who last season won the CAF Confederation Cup silverware with RS Berkane of Morocco, noted Yanga has a great chance to win the showdown this season due to the type of players the club is made up of.

The tactician disclosed some of the outfit's footballers have in the past won the continental tournament's top honour, while several others have made it to the tournament's final.

He added that, if Yanga concedes a loss in the final, then it will be unfortunate, but they have a lot of potential to win it this season.

The tactician revealed: "I know Young Africans (Yanga) very well, and that is due to the type of players they have this season, I know most of them, I used to coach  them at AS Vita."

Some of the players that Ibenge has trained and now serving Yanga are Fiston Mayele, Tuisila Kisinda, Yanick Bangala, Bernard Morrison, Jesus Moloko, and Djuma Shaban all of whom had earlier served AS Vita.

Ibenge and Kisinda won the last season's CAF Confederation Cup trophy while serving RS Berkane.

"I don't see whether they have anything to lose in this CAF Confederation Cup, they have a lot of potential to win this trophy with the quality they have shown this season, if they lose the final then it will be a good campaign for them still," the coach noted.

"The main thing that the players need is they ought to be decisive on home soil before playing away, although Yanga has proved to be dangerous even in away games this is a final match... it has a different approach and atmosphere," Ibenge added.

Neither Yanga nor USM Alger has ever won an African inter-club tournament title hence this is a golden chance for both of them to put their hands on it and make a new history that will stand forever.

The two teams meet at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam this Sunday for the first leg match of the CAF Confederation Cup final, with both sides keen to grab the silverware.

In the semi-finals, Yanga earned 40m/- from President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s motivation package after scoring four goals in their two assignments against the South African club, Marumo Gallants.

Yanga fans will be in good mode after President Samia pledged to purchase 5000 tickets for fans to enable them to cheer the outfit in the first leg match of the CAF Confederation Cup final against USM Alger on Sunday.

Various tickets have already been purchased by officials and public figures to help fans show up in numbers.

With the CAF Confederation Cup final in hand Yanga, is moreover looking forward to clinching the Azam Sports Federation Cup silverware to put a cheer on the ice for the historical season.
