Ivorians duo out of Esperance tie, ‘Sure Boy’ returns

Key Azam FC Ivorian players will miss the Confederation Cup second round, return leg away match against Esperance set for Wednesday in Tunisia.

Azam defender Pascal Wawa

Defender Pascal Wawa and dependable striker Kipre Tchetche are nursing injuries and will not feature in the return leg match in Tunis.

Azam FC assistant physician Dr Talib Omar said yesterday that Wawa sustained a muscle injury in the first leg match played at Azam Complex, Chamazi in Dar es Salaam.

“The defender cannot recover soon enough despite the medical team having tried its best to render effective medication,” he affirmed.

Tchetche has a similar problem sustained when his team played Mtibwa Sugar recently in a Mainland Premier League match at the Manungu ground in Turiani, Morogoro. Azam FC won the match 1-0.

He said the absence of the duo was a blow to the Chamazi-based side considering that Shomari Kapombe was also sick.
Midfielder Salum Abubakar ‘Sure Boy’ who missed the first CAF leg because of injury had recovered and would play in the return leg where Azam hangs on any kind of draw to advance.

Azam FC won 2-1 in the first leg played in Dar es Salaam.
