FUFA backs Micho after win over Tanzania amidst calls for his sacking

UGANDA's Cranes head coach Miltutin Sredojovic has renewed his relationship with FUFA after securing a 1-0 win versus Tanzania in the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers' Group F tie that took place at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday.

The unequivocal support of Sredojevic, alias 'Micho', within FUFA is slightly bizarre yet also very real.

To date, no matter the situation or crisis he appears to be faced with, there has been no danger of the Serbian losing his job.

Amidst calls for his sacking in the recent past, at least FUFA has put on a thick skin, absorbed all the pressure, and given Micho full support.

Earlier this week, FUFA called for a press conference and everyone expected that Micho would be sacked.

However, in the press briefing held at FUFA House on Thursday morning, FUFA President Moses Hassim Magogo confirmed Micho will carry on with his job.

As Ugandans, we may not be happy about the results the National Team is getting but we must also face the reality. The transition of teams is a reality and the only route you can take to get back, he said.

If you look at the team that played against Tanzania, 13 of them are products of the FUFA Juniors League we started in 2015. We must give them the necessary support and hope the results can get better, the FUFA boss noted.

Magogo indicated assessment will be done after the qualification campaign.

We don't want to make rushed decisions. As FUFA, we are giving ourselves time and we will make an assessment after the qualification campaign, the official noted.

The Serbian tactician returned on July 27, 2021, and has been in charge of the team for 29 matches, including friendlies.

Out of the 29 games, Micho has managed to win eight, notched a draw 11, and lost 10.

In his first spell (2013-2017), Micho guided Uganda's Cranes to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, breaking a 39-year jinx.
