Critical Pluijm 'frustrated' despite Singida Fountain Gate FC's
  • big win

SINGIDA Fountain Gate FC had a comfortable four-goal lead until the half-hour mark when Saleh Abdullah scored JKU SC's consolation goal from the spot kick.

The home side's goals were scored by Maruf Tchakei that secured a brace, Morrice Chukwu, and Duke Abuya before JKU SC grabbed a consolation from a spot kick following a defensive mistake

A penalty kick was awarded after an audacious attempt by Kenyan defender Joash Onyango to dribble past three JKU players ended with a handball by his teammate, Biemes Carno.

Despite the 4-1 healthy first-leg advantage in the CAF Confederation Cup First Preliminary round game played at Azam Complex Stadium, Singida Fountain Gate FC head coach Hans van der Pluijm was critical of his squad's performance in the second half and also criticized Onyango for a poor decision that led to conceding an easy goal.

The Dutch gaffer noted: "In the first half we played very well and in the first ten minutes of the second half, then we forgot the discipline in the team."

"We conceded an easy goal from an experienced player who dribbled through a difficult situation," Pluijm pointed out.

The tactician said: "We have conceded a goal, 4-0 is always better than 4-1. It is not that I am afraid of the return leg but if you start with the same determination and spirit that we started in the first half then we have to win the return leg and that is our aim."

"Football is a game of mistakes but this was a childish one. An experienced player is dribbling the ball just outside the box, takes on two players, and also wants to dribble the third player," he noted.

"I don't think that it is very intelligent. You can't make that kind of mistake at this level."

"If you win you are always happy but if you saw how we finished the last 25 minutes that doesn't make a coach happy."

"We had the game under control then we lost it, misplaced passes, gave away ball possession and we didn't create much more upfront. We made it difficult for ourselves," Pluijm stated.

Before locking horns with JKU SC in the rematch, Singida Fountain Gate FC will quickly shift focus to NBC Premier League with an opening game of the season against Tanzania Prisons tomorrow.
