The victory has helped Bugando Planet finish in the second position of the league’s standings after the end of the second round, with Profile perched at the top.
Bugando Heat and Butimba Spiders, which are third and fourth positions, respectively, have as well, qualified for the playoffs.
Victory over Spiders was crucial for Planet’s chances to progress into the playoffs, as the latter had come close to jeopardize their playoffs’ qualification after succumbing to an embarrassing 92-52 loss to high-flying Profile at the same venue on April 2.
MBF secretary, Shomary Almasi, said the playoffs have been slated to start tomorrow when Bugando Heat will face Profile at the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) Club’s court.
Almasi said the playoff will be played in the best of three games’ format to secure teams that will land a place in the final, which will be played in the best of five games’ format.
Planet, comprising a host of gifted experienced players, will certainly need to be at their best should they wish to secure a place in the final.
Planet are up against equally competent opponents in Heat, Spiders and Profile in the playoffs, with the latter also being determined to make full use of the services of their talented, up-and-coming players to perform well in the stage.
MBF has organized the annual league in a bid to maintain effective promotion of the sport in the Lake Zone region.
Eagles Kiloleli, Dolphins Pasiansi, Bugando Warriors and Saint Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) are the other teams that battled it out in the preliminary stage of the league.
