According to officials, the Pakistani national football team has received visas for India, where they will play the hosts in their first game on Indian soil since 2014.The South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship will begin on Wednesday with the South Asian neighbors.
The approval of the visa, according to Haroon Malik, the head of the Pakistan Football Federation, was "a great sign and very significant" and necessitated obtaining "no objection certificates" from both the Pakistani and Indian governments.
"This is a very positive sign and shows at least some level of resumption of sporting ties," Malik added, noting that the visas had been obtained on Monday night.
"This really is the role of football - to unite the world and bring [people] closer," said one fan of the event. "We are very excited and looking forward to this tournament."
