It has been constructed through its One Computer Lab One School Project that aims to enhance the integration of ICT into teaching and learning in low-resource public schools, preparing young people for the digital economy and the future of work.
Speaking during the launching of the facility early this week, Simanjiro District Commissioner Dr Suleiman Serera thanked the organization for extending their support to the school.
He noted that due to technological changes in the World, ICT has also taken a centre stage in service provision and several other sectors including education.
“Through this computer lab at Naisinyai School students will receive training in digital issues, computer use, various curriculum courses, textbooks, various textbooks, knowledge on the opportunities available in ICT and knowledge of leadership,” Serera said.
Gloria Anderson, TEDI executive director thanked the United States (US) government through Mandela Washington Fellowship Program for funding the project and the Simanjiro District Commissioner’s office for their great cooperation in making the project a success by collecting resources from the district, county and village level of Naisinyai.
She noted that Covid-19 pandemic has exposed the depth of the socio-economic inequalities that exist in our society and country at large. The majority of students who did not have access to digital devices and the literacy skills to use them, were just at home.
She called upon more development partners and stakeholders to join hands in revolutionizing the education sector with digital innovations so as to align with the technological advancements happening in the 21st century.
Reports show that by 2035, Africa will have the largest workforce in the world. Investing in young people’s education is the best way to make the most of this opportunity.
Digital transformation can lead to rapid, sustained economic growth, but only if countries invest in digital infrastructure and human capital. Youth need to be prepared for the digital economy and the future of work.
