Investors advised to utilise EPZA digital portal

THE Economic Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) has encouraged investors in the country to utilise the authority’s new digital system to update their information as an important opportunity for them to expand their businesses.

DARA USER

Dubbed: “EPZA Business Facilitation Portal”, the system was launched last year in order to reach investors with timely, smooth and efficient services.

William Msoffe, EPZA acting head of the procurement department made the call at the weekend during the visit to various factories in Lindi, Mtwara and Ruvuma regions.

“This system is a very huge opportunity for investors as they will be able to access important business information from EPZA, update their information and thus improve their plans,” he said.

He added it was important for the investors to update their information using the new digital system because granting of licenses to investors who want to invest under EPZA has been simplified.

He said the authority has visited and evaluated its factories located in the southern zone as part of its exercise to assess all factories across the country.

The official said that during the visit, a total of seven factories in Lindi region, 10 factories in Mtwara region and a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for the production of goods for export in Ruvuma region were assessed.

Msoffe said that the major purpose of the visit was to witness progress of the investors, update information of the investors and to hear challenges facing the investors who are more than 200 in the country.

The tour also aimed to provide education on Export processing zones and SEZ programmes to various stakeholders.

He added that the assessment will enable the authority to be able to work on various recorded challenges of investors and thus achieve its goal to transform the country’s industrial sector.

“Promoting establishment of more factories helps create jobs, increase the competitiveness of domestic raw materials and increase the nation’s foreign exchange,” he added.

Msoffe said: “The government’s emphasis for industries in this country is to promote processing and value addition of various produce and raw materials; with this, many youth will get employment but also stimulate growth of technology in the country.”

He said that, currently, the Authority through EPZ SEZ programmes is producing products that meet international standards thus benefiting from the market opportunities in the American, Asian, European and other markets within the African continent.

Products that have started to be exported include those in the agricultural, mining, energy, forestry, textile and steel sectors.
