DPM: Public should add value to bills set for National Assembly debate

DEPUTY Prime Minister and Minister for Energy Doto Biteko has called upon Tanzanians to massively participate in the on-going exercise to collect views for improvement of the recently tabled bills aimed to support President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s reconciliation efforts.

The bills, which were tabled for first reading in the National Assembly in November last year are the National Electoral Commission Bill 2023, the Political Parties Affairs Laws (Amendment), Bill 2023, the Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government Elections Bill, 2023.

He made the call when addressing residents in Mbogwe District, Geita Region during celebrations to welcome the year 2024 which was organized by Mbogwe District Commissioner, Nicodemus Maganga. The event was attended by different leaders led by Geita Regional Commissioner, Martine Shigella.

“The National Assembly has called upon people to submit their views on the bills from January 6th to 10th, 2024. May I urge Tanzanians to actively participate in the exercise,” said the DPM.

He said President Samia is working tirelessly to unite Tanzanians despite their religious, tribal and political ideology differences. He said the President has been listening and working on views presented by various groups as well as allowing political parties to conduct rallies to explain their policies to the people.

On civic polls scheduled for later this year, Biteko called upon citizens to vote for leaders of their choice, insisting polls should not be a reason to divide.

He said Tanzanians should remain united and discuss issues of national interest such as improvement of water services, electricity and infrastructure development.

Biteko noted that electricity services in Mbogwe District continued to be improved whereas new power transmission lines have been built. He said the power transmission line from Nyakanazi will also transmit electricity to Kahama District, Shinyanga Region.

Mbogwe will also have a power cooling sub-station, he added.

Geita Regional Commissioner, Martine Shigella expressed satisfaction with implementation of development projects in Mbogwe District. The project includes school construction, water, electricity, health and infrastructures.

Shigella said that 90 percent of villages in Mbogwe District have been connected to power, insisting the remaining 50 villages will be connected in near future.

Mbogwe legislator, Nicodemus Maganga commended the DPM for visiting the area during New Year, insisting the District is determined to ensure all development projects including those in the mining sector are implemented accordingly.

Maganga lauded President Samia for allocating funds for development projects in Mbogwe District, insisting the district will have a new look by 2027.
