CRDB hands over 53m/- in food supplies for elders’ home

President John Magufuli’s wife, First Lady Janeth Magufuli, yesterday received an assortment of food items worth 53m/- from CRDB Bank on behalf of Bukumbi Centre for the Disabled and the Elderly.

Janeth, who is the guardian of the centre which is located at Idetenya Ward in Misungwi District, received rice, maize flour, beans, sugar, vegetable cooking oil and solar panels.

Speaking soon after handing over the supplies, Janeth lauded CRDB for the donation, urging other well-wishers and financial institutions to emulate the spirit of assisting needy people in society, including the elderly and vulnerable.

“I visited 17 centres for the elderly in the country and saw how the occupants were overwhelmed by numerous challenges.

However, I will ensure that I work at my level best to address those challenges,” she said. Earlier, CRDB Bank managing director and CEO, Dr Charles Kimei, said the support was part of his bank’s endeavour to support needy people in the society, including those with disabilities as well as the elderly.

Dr Kimei said the donation was part of his bank’s twenty-year anniversary since it started operations in the country. Currently, the bank has 50 branches across Lake Zone regions from three which started with.

The centre’s manager, Michael Bundala, said it was introduced by the government in 1974 with the aim of assisting the elderly and people with disabilities. The centre is home to 108 people living with disabilities.

The First Lady also received a washing machine donated by PPF.
