TFF must do something to improve impartiality

LACK of impartiality is at the lips of every coach, player, official as well as fans of the football game in Tanzania when they reflect league games across the country.

The people who have been entrusted to decide fate of football matches are doing so in the most bizarre way that disappoints the entire soccer fraternity.

It has now been a usual habit for referees to ‘bend’ rules so as to meet their own interests and not that of the game. There are moments these referees and linesmen make decisions which are unfair and provocative to entire football fans in broad daylight.

The rules are there, but in rare circumstances, few of the match officials, particularly referees, actually get punished when they blatantly disregard known procedure. However, some of them got away with it despite messing at the field of play.

The same football federation that severely punishes wrongdoing referees, is the same that keeps a blind eye on some of them who have now perfected in officiating poorly.

Very surprising that incidents of poor referring which have been observed by not only match commissioners but to the entire spectators, take long to be decided through the well established TFF committees.

A strong impression is now reflected on the football federation that it allegedly backs some of the referees who perform poorly to meet interest of specified team or officials. Teams and officials are now losing patience on the poor quality of referees to seek an outsource replacement!

While soccer match results are supposed to be obtained from the football pitch after the match, the reverse is the case as referees and some of the clubs know for sure what will prevail during the match.

This is extraordinary and not the way soccer is supposed to be administered.
As a result, the standard of soccer keeps on falling in the country as FIFA ranks plunge to undesirable depths for the Tanzania national soccer team.

Another resultant mediocre is huge snub by the Confederation of African Football and FIFA in general who keep their back against Tanzanian referees. Rarely are those referees despite carrying FIFA badges on their chest do appointed to officiate international matches.

Organisers of the biennial African Nations Cup or the FIFA World Cup that is staged after four years, never deploy referees from Tanzania on regular basis.

The aftermath of poor officiating is vividly seen as clubs and national teams have perfected in mediocre show when it comes to compete at international platform. For how long this trend would persist, no one knows other than the football federation.

The Mainland soccer league has reached half way stage but the major highlight is not how well teams have been playing but rather unfair officiating with most of the teams complaining.

The football federation does not seem to care on this dreadful situation as it continues to do what seems as a double standard in terms of punishment when referees happen to fumble.

Probably there is a need to remind TFF that it has a core responsibility of raising standard of the game and not concentrating on seeking sponsorship with tenacious zeal. ends
