Bahari Oilfield Services-FPZ will partner with MAC Group Tanzania and Singapore based M/S Springville Infrastructure PTE Limited to develop the offshore supply base and logistic facility in Mtwara.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam last weekend, Bahari Oilfield Services-FPZ General Manager, Peter Wilson said the first phase of the project has already started with the laying of a foundation stone.
Wilson also said that upon commissioning, the facility shall provide a wide range of land based support and logistic services to the supply chain of oil and gas companies.
“The foundation stone has been laid at the project site to mark the beginning of construction of our facility.
We will invest another 400bn/- to build a dedicated quay adjoining Mtwara freeport zone to provide marine support services,” he said
He added: “The proposed quay facilities shall act as an eventual interface between the upstream and freeport operations.”
During the official foundation stone laying ceremony a fortnight ago, Mtwara Regional Administrative Secretary Alfred Luanda said massive natural gas discoveries in the region has seen significant investments in infrastructure.
“The people of Mtwara are benefiting through the presence of investors who are boosting the local economy and also providing employment,” Luanda said.
He said Mtwara and the neighbouring region of Lindi have huge natural gas reserves and other natural resources which presents an opportunity to transform people’s lives.
“The oil and gas sector continues to grow with relevant developments such as this Bahari offshore supply base, the planed Lindi liquefied natural gas plant and continued oil and natural gas exploration,” he noted.
Over 50 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves have been discovered in the southern regions of Lindi and Mtwara while exploration and drilling work continues by multinational companies.
