ZFA needs 500m/- to host Kagame Cup

ZANZIBAR Football Association (ZFA) interim committee has said it needs about 500m/- for staging this year’s East and Central Africa Club Championship, Kagame Cup, which has been slated to take place in the Isles.

The committee’s member, Masoud Attai, disclosed that the cash will meet accommodation, transport and food expenses for the participating teams.
Attai said the committee had already started contacting the government, companies and different institutions to seek sponsorship for the tournament after Zanzibar was appointed by CECAFA as the event’s host.
"Soccer is extremely expensive. We are planning to seek funds for footing the tournament’s expenses. We need not less than 500m/- to cooperate with CECAFA to successfully host the event," he said.
The ZFA interim committee official said they have also begun supporting Zanzibar’s outfit of Mafunzo, which will take part in the event, to prepare for the showpiece.
“Zanzibar has won the East and Central Africa Challenge Cup once (in 1995) but we have not won the Kagame Cup. We have planned to see to it that we win the event,” he said.
CECAFA has yet to unveil the amount of cash that will be spent in organizing the event this year. About 1.2bn/- was spent in organizing the last year’s event.
Mainland Premier League’s Azam FC won the last year’s Kagame Cup, which was played in Dar es Salaam.
