TMA: Country to experience warmer nights in coming week

TANZANIA Meteorological Agency (TMA) has alerted residents of the Northern Coast, Southern Coast and North-Eastern Highlands regions that they will experience warmer nights over the coming next week.

Director General for the Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA), Dr Agness Kijazi.

According to a TMA weather outlook for 10 days released yesterday, the regions are expected to be mainly dry with few periods of normal rain showers in few areas and normal to above normal rain showers and thunderstorms in some areas, until Wednesday.
The TMA report specified the regions as the Northern Coast regions including Dar es Salaam, Morogoro and Tanga, the isles of Unguja and Pemba), North-Eastern Highlands of (Kilimanjaro, Arusha and Manyara regions) and Southern Coast (Mtwara and Lindi regions)
It said while Central Indian Ocean and South West Indian Ocean (East Africa coast) warm Sea Surface Temperatures (SSTs) are expected to persist, this setting will continue to influence-wet conditions over most parts especially western, central and southern sectors of the country.
“This is expected to continue holding the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) on current position at extreme climatological position in the southern hemisphere, the report said.
Warm SSTs are expected to persist over Atlantic Ocean closer to Angola coast, and neutral to cool SSTs are expected in the North West Indian Ocean (closer to the Somali coast),” it said.
According to the TMA report, the southern hemisphere high pressure systems St Helena and Mascarene are expected to relax, while in the northern hemisphere high-pressure systems, the Azores and Siberian highs, are expected to intensify significantly.
However, the TMA report said the Lake Victoria Basin (Kagera, Mwanza, Mara, Geita, Simiyu and Shinyanga regions) are expected to have normal rain showers and thunderstorms over few areas, mostly during the first half of the period.
TMA said the Western regions of (Kigoma, Katavi and Tabora) are expected to have normal to above normal rain showers and thunderstorms over some areas, while the Central areas of (Dodoma and Singida regions) are expected to receive normal to above normal rains and thunderstorms over few areas during the period.
