Yanga now joyously in dreamland

WITH the splendid manner in which the present football season has unfolded thus far, this year could very well turn out to be an Annus Mirabilis for Yanga.

Indeed, the Jangwani Street club has been in such supreme form this year that they are challenging for silverware on three different fronts and most significantly, they have a realistic chance of actually claiming what would be a historic treble.

At this point, it should be noted that Yanga has already impeccably lifted the Mainland Premier League trophy, which marks their second consecutive league title victory.

Incredibly, the Jangwani Street side has also advanced to the final of the Azam Sports Federations Cup as well as the CAF Confederations Cup final to boot, which is truly remarkable.

It has been their sublime form though in the CAF Confederations Cup this season which has really caught the eye of local die-hard football fans and fellow Africans in general across the vast expanse of the continent.

What has made Yanga’s progress in the CAF Confederations Cup this season all the more exceptional is the fact that they are the first side in the eventful history of Tanzanian football to reach the climax of an African football competition.

Indeed, prior to this year, Tanzanian clubs had found it exceedingly difficult for donkey’s years to vie for titles on the ferociously competitive continental football landscape.

In fact, to be wholly frank, the bald truth of the matter is that our pre-eminent domestic juggernauts had hitherto simply not been up to scratch, which greatly impeded their showings in continental football championships.

Still, despite that though, Yanga has distinctly shown this season that there is a wealth of potential in local football, to the utter elation of all Tanzanians.

Importantly, Yanga will face-off against Algerian powerhouse USM Alger in the CAF Confederations Cup final in what will hopefully be a riveting two-legged spectacle.

Godspeed then to Yanga as they attempt to claim a first-ever piece of silverware won by a Tanzanian club in continental football.

Indeed, if Yanga’s dazzling exploits in the CAF Confederations Cup this season were to have a fitting story-book ending, it would make for ideal material to be used in a documentary.

One might question though why filming a documentary about Yanga’s outstanding form in the CAF Confederations Cup this season should be viewed as a matter of immense importance.

Well, for one thing, it would go a long way towards creating a permanent record of Yanga’s unique exertions for the sake of posterity.

There are of course other ways of recording Yanga’s sterling displays for future generations to revel in.

One such way is chronicling Yanga’s impressive rise in the form of a book, therefore, one hopes that gifted non-fiction authors in the country will be inspired to pen an unforgettable account of Yanga’s epic 2022-23 football season.
