TFF president Jamal Malinzi said yesterday that they had no proper team in that category to represent the country.
“We will soon start preparing a proper under-20 team but for now we do not have a team to represent us in that competition,” Malinzi said, adding that TFF already had under-13, 15 and 17 teams.
He said if the teams will do well they will be the ones to be promoted to next levels, noting that TFF was looking for sponsors of the men and women teams.
Malinzi said one qualifying match costs about Sh140m which the body could not afford as scarcely anyone was ready to go to the National Stadium to watch the game.
“Advanced countries which are supported by their governments can compete at all tournaments but for Tanzania we can’t,” he said.
Malinzi said he would make sure that TFF have a special fund project for youth teams.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) recently released the 2017 AFCON qualifying fixtures for youth tournaments in under-17. Tanzania under-17 will play Seychelles.
