Wallace Karia, TFF president, stated so at a dinner hosted by President Samia Suluhu Hassan for Young Africans SC, popularly known as Yanga, to congratulate the club for registering tremendous achievement in the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup.
Karia said next season the country will be represented by four clubs in CAF inter-club tournaments and he promised the President that the quartet will defy the odds and perform beyond expectations.
“We are very grateful for the support which football is enjoying in the country, President- you are always at the forefront of supporting our football clubs," Karia told President Samia.
The TFF president pointed out: "Through your excellent support, the country's football is doing well on the international stage."
"In next season's CAF inter-club tournaments, the country will be represented by four football clubs and I am sure we will also come here, hopefully with a trophy,” he said.
In his remarks, Yanga president Hersi Ally Said thanked President Samia for her support of the team, saying through her support the outfit has performed well in CAF Confederation Cup this season.
He said President Samia has dared his club to perform well in next year's CAF Champions League.
The Yanga leader disclosed: “It’s a moment to treasure because it has been a tough road and a long wait, we thank President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her support."
The official noted: "Through her support, Yanga has this season reached the final of CAF Confederation Cup, let me assure the President that we will work hard and next season we will bring the CAF inter-club showdown trophy here.”
“I can assure Her Excellency that we will do all we can to improve technically and turn things around, we will bring the CAF inter-club showpiece's trophy here,” he said.
President Samia assured Yanga and all football clubs in the country that her administration will continue working to improve football and the rest of sports in the country.
“Time has come to reclaim that winning mindset, I have been saying that we need to put our sports at their right place, with Yanga's achievements in the CAF Confederation Cup, I think we have achieved that,” she said.
Yanga last week turned into the country's first club in recent years to reach the final of the CAF Confederation Cup, the side commanded a 1-0 victory over Algeria's USM Alger in the final's rematch in Algiers last Saturday.
The Jangwani Street-based side though did not bring the showpiece's trophy home because of an away-goal rule, having succumbed to a 2-1 loss to the Algerian side in the first leg played in Dar es Salaam.
