Niyonzima ruled out against Al Ahly tie

MAINLAND champions Young Africans will face Egyptian Al Ahly without their key player, HarunaNiyonzima in the first leg of the CAF Champions League tie set for April 9th at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Yanga midfielder Haruna Niyonzima (R) talks to APR skipper ahead of their CAF Champions League return match last Saturday.

The influential midfielder will miss the crucial home match of the last 16 qualifying stage after picking up two yellow cards in the two games against APR where Yanga triumphed 3-2 on aggregate.

In the first leg played in Kigali, Niyonzima was booked for a tackle from behind in the first half prompting his early substitution in the second half.

In the return leg in Dar, he picked his second booking in the first half.

In 2014, Niyonzima missed the second leg against Al Ahly due to a malaria bout. Al Ahly won 4-3 on a penalty shoot-out to send Yanga crashing out of the CAF Champions League.

Last year, Niyonzima was also unlucky to miss the return leg against Etoile du Sahel in Sousse after he picked an injury during training a day before the match.
