Mtibwa who usually seems to be stout and intent at the beginning of the seasons, have shown all indications that they might possibly be out of the title track after dismal performance they displayed during the 18th round match against hosts Ndanda FC at the Nangwanda Stadium in Mtwara.
The 1-1 draw with troubled Ndanda has dented Mtibwa Sugar’s earlier hopes of becoming one of the hottest contenders for this season’s title as the league comes into highly challenging stages.
This is the second draw for the sugar processing footballers after another one they secured at the hands of visiting Toto Africa at their very backyard of Manungu Stadium in Morogoro barely a week ago.
Dropping four precious points in two back to back games has seriously dented chances of the Morogoro side to match at par with other hot contenders for the premiership title at this stage.
Coach Mecky Maxime has a tall order to endure if he really wants to push his boys into the frame for scudetto contenders this season. The talent-rich side will have to cover massive ten-point gap and leapfrog three other Dar es Salaam-based teams now in hectic mood for podium finish.
With their next fixture against holders Young Africans at the National Stadium this weekend, Mtibwa need to be careful in planning how best to stop the holders.
Mtibwa should prepare thoroughly if they want to upstage Yanga who will be at home and working under pressure to avoid any sort of slip every match is important as the title race has been turned into a three-horse affair.
Only wining strategy would lift Mtibwa to the contention as a win over Yanga will not be necessarily the alternative to join title race. Besides Yanga, Simba and Azam have also stabilized their positions and look all the way to challenge the holders in their quest for title haul.
