Bocco rescues Azam FC in Yanga tie

John Bocco’s late goal rescued Azam FC from the jaws of defeat at the hands of Young Africans SC when the teams met in a Mainland Premier League tie at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Bocco scored the second goal in the 72nd minute to level for Azam FC. The regular Yanga killer used a Kipre Tchetche pass to beat goalie Ally Mustapha “Barthez’ and seal the game at 2-2.

Azam FC were the first to score in the 11th minute when Yanga defender Juma Abdul scored an own goal in a desperate move to clear Kipre Tchetche’s danger.

Abdul later rectified the matter when he scored the first goal for Yanga in the 28th minute, hitting home a 20-metre drive before Donald Ngoma added the second in the 42nd minute.

The teams drew 1-1 in the first leg match played last year on the same ground.

The two clubs tie on 47 points, while defending champions Yanga lead the 16-team league on goal difference, with Azam FC having one match in hand.

Third-placed Simba who have 45 points, play Mbeya City at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam this afternoon. A win for the Msimbazi Street side will make them top the league as they will reach 48 points, a point above Yanga and Azam FC.
