Because of this, says Sanjay Rughani (pictured), Chief Executive Officer of SCB, the bank will continue to be committed to the country through investment in its banking systems especially digital platforms.
“Investing in Africa, and indeed Tanzania, to make it a regional powerhouse, is a key priority in the bank’s new strategy,” he told Smart Money in an interview.
“As such, he added, “Standard Chartered is set to enhance its digital capabilities, technological platforms and wealth management solutions in Tanzania”.
According to him, the bank, which has a rich history of 150 years in Africa, will continue to focus on projects that grow the Tanzanian economy, and reduce poverty and inequality.
Rughani pointed out that as Standard Chartered Bank; they remain fully committed to their partnership with the private and public institutions and to providing world-class products, services and banking innovation to clients.
“This country is one of the markets which will receive additional investments to enhance our capabilities”, he stressed.
Citing the current replacement of its automated teller machines as demonstrating the bank’s determination to provide 21st century smart banking solutions, he said the bank will continue to provide a broad range of financing instruments including loans, guarantees and risk capital to Africa, selecting projects that can deliver sustainable economic, social and environmental benefits.
The bank has pledged to remain the leading entity in Tanzania, supporting key sectors of the economy, including health, education, agriculture and major service industries and continue bringing in the much-needed capital and innovative financing solutions to support growth, diversification and job creation.
With the government’s efforts in improving the economy, the bank’s new initiative will aim to bridge the scale-up gap by fostering rapid growth in the start-up community, creating jobs and helping Tanzania compete on the global stage, he said.
