Coastal handed Azam FC their first defeat of the season after pulling a surprise but deserving one nil victory that shocked the ice-cream makers.
It was a bitter pill to swallow for the ice-cream makers whose 16-match unbeaten run came to a shuddering halt and subsequently lose advantage of having two matches in hand in the premiership fixtures.
Azam are still glued at 42-point mark after 17 appearances to stay third-placed in the standings table, three adrift of leaders, Simba Sports Club.
The Tanga side has managed its third victory of the season to amass 15 points and sink in the relegation pool, same as their archrivals, African Sports. African Sports also edged another Tanga team, Mgambo Shooting by a lone goal but failed to disengage from the relegation tidal waves.
With eleven rounds to wind up the season, both Coastal Union and African Sports are supposed to stage resurgent firepower if they are to survive relegation purge at the end of the season.
Buoyed by cluster of points among the six teams from the base of the standings table, the Tanga teams might capitalise on the advantage to be gained by results of other teams as well.
Staying at the base of the log is none other than JKT Ruvu with 14 points in 19 appearances. Abdallah Kibaden, who coaches Ruvu JKT looks to be spending sleepless nights as his side has a tall order to endure if premiership survival is to be a top priority.
Majimaji and Kagera Sugar who share identical statistics with difference in goal aggregate, survive by narrow single point off the relegation borderline.
