Police in Mbeya get vehicles to enhance patrols along highways

THE police force in Mbeya Region has received two vehicles and two motorcycles from the region’s safety committee to enhance efficiency in its daily operations.

The donated vehicles are also expected to improve patrols along the Mbeya-Kyela Road and the Tanzania and Zambia Highway (TANZAM), thus ensuring safety of motorists and other road users.

Speaking at the handover event at the weekend, Mbeya Regional Police Commander, Benjamin Kuzaga commended the regional safety committee for providing the force with the vehicles, saying they will help lessen the shortage of working equipment.

He said as the police force strives to enhance its operations and patrols around the region to bolster security, a major hindrance has been the shortage of equipment.

“I would like to express my gratitude to our stakeholders for their assistance. The vehicles will help us address the issue of equipment shortage, thus increasing productivity,” Kuzaga said.

The RPC added that the donated vehicles are meant to be used for patrolling along highways that connect Mbeya Region with neighbouring countries and regions. The roads to be patrolled include the Mbeya-Kyela Road and Tanzania and Zambia Highway (TANZAM).

Eng. Rajabu Ghuliku, Chairman of Mbeya Region Road Safety Committee, said that it is part of the committee's obligations to support the police force in performing their responsibilities.

“The committee is determined to support the police force in Mbeya Region with vehicles and motorcycles to improve their effectiveness in performing their tasks, particularly in the area of road safety,” Ghuliku said.

He asked other stakeholders to chip in and support the force with equipment for purposes of enhancing efficiency in its operations.
