In a joint statement availed to the media yesterday by Tanzania Albinism Society (TAS) and Under the Same Sun (UTSS), Ismail was last seen on January 31 at Mtipule Village.
Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam, TAS Acting Secretary General Joseph Torner, said that they have reported to Mkuranga police station and Kimanzichana police post and were given report book numbers KM/RB/50/2016 and MKU/PE/05/2016.
“There are rumors that before he disappeared, Ismail was seen with his colleague at a local brew joint and that at around 7.30 pm he had a fight with some people (names withheld by police), but we are swtill looking for him,” he said.
He said they are disappointed with the growing brutality against people with albinism including an attempt at kidnapping an infant Tito Nkuryu (3) at Itimila in Simiyu Region on February 16. Nkuryu has been moved to a children centre in Lamadi for his safety.
“We call upon the National Assembly and East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) to thoroughly discuss on how to protect people with albinism by coming up with a permanent solution to ensure that we are living comfortably in our country like other people,” he said.
TAS boss appealed to the government to have a national policy for PWA and enact special law to allow issue relating with PWA are resolved basing on the policy and law.
Mkuranga TAS Chairman Hassan Kambangwa said that the missing Ismail was in 2009 attacked by unknown assailants who cut him on his arm and asked authorities and other stakeholders to strengthen security and protect people with albinism.
“Our fear is that people who attack us may relocate after committing offence to escape arrest and consequent prosecution,” he said.
TAS Chairman for Morogoro Hassan Mikazi (where Ismail visited his relatives) said that they have tried putting up a search team to no avail because they have failed to come up with any trace of the missing Ismail.
“Anyone who sees him please report to the TAS National Chairman on mobile number 0767874592, a nearby police post or Kimanzichana police post 0682897922 and Mkuranga police station 0787504124,” he pleaded.
