Talking to journalists yesterday, the Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Dr Hamis Mwinyimvua, said the meeting which will take place on 9th, this month, is part of the implementation of the National Economic Empowerment Policy. The meeting is being organised by NEEC and the Prime Minister’s office.
It will involve participants from the ministries, government departments and institutions, local government authorities, nongovernmental organisations and the private sector.
According to Dr Mwinyimvua, the meeting will, among other things, discuss the implementation of the National Economic Empowerment Policy and recognise efforts of stakeholders who implement it.
“The meeting will also discuss the best way to implement the national economic empowerment policy,” he noted, adding that such meetings would be taking place every year.
NEEC executive secretary Beng’i Issa said after the meeting it was expected that empowerment desks would be introduced to districts, regions, ministries and departments who would be responsible for making thorough empowerment follow ups, preparing reports and presenting them at NEEC.
“This meeting will help coordinate matters related to empowerment responsibly and ethically,” she explained.
She noted that the meeting would play part in sensitising and making sure that service providers of various tenders and huge projects give priority to citizens who would meet required standards.
The National Economic Empowerment Strategy is already in place and its guidelines will be inaugurated during next week’s meeting.
