This follows his re-election as the president during elections held on February 18, this year.
“It gives me great pleasure, on behalf of the government and people of Tanzania and indeed on my own behalf, to extend to you our heartfelt congratulations on your re-election as the President of the Republic of Uganda,” President Magufuli said in his congratulatory message to Museveni.
He added: “Your re-election to the helm of your country is a true reflection of the confidence that the people of Uganda have in you as well as testimony of their trust in your exemplary leadership.”
“I also take this opportunity to congratulate your party, National Resistance Movement (NRM), for its outstanding victory in the General Elections.
As you are well aware, both my party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) and the government have enjoyed brotherly relations with the Ugandan people over the years,” the statement further said.
He also reaffirmed his readiness and determination to continue working with Museveni in further strengthening the two countries’ relations for the benefit of their peoples.
Uganda's main opposition candidate Kizza Besigye, however, rejected Museveni's victory, saying the poll was a "sham". Besigye who is under house arrest called for an independent audit of the results.
"We have just witnessed what must be the most fraudulent electoral process in Uganda," said Besigye.
