Commissioner for Education in the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Vocational Training, Prof Eustella Bhalalusesa said the tutors are to be demoted from their current posts.
Addressing journalists in Dar es Salaam this week, Bhalalusesa directed the director of education to suspend the selection in the affected regions.
She named the residential tutors as Wotugu Muganda of Dare s Salaam center, Senorina Kateule (Dodoma) and Steward Ndandu (Mwanza and Geita).
Prof Bhalalusesa explained that the move came after receiving complaints from parents and guardians who were informed by the tutors that their children were selected in the second selection to join public schools, something which was not true.
She said that when the affected students reported to the said schools, they learnt that they were not enrolled as their names were not there.
“This caused unnecessary confusion to parents and students, as the criteria used to select our (IAE) students is different from ordinary public schools,” the official said, adding:
“The criteria used by tutors in those regions was against procedures and misled students and the public in general.”
Prof Bhalalusesa said: “Normally second selection is for students who sat for Standard Seven exams and their pass marks range between 100 and 250, but they were not chosen for some reasons including limited number of schools and classrooms.”
According to her, all students selected to join in the program coordinated by the IAE in the four regions failed to attain 100-250 marks to join public secondary schools.
The commissioner clarified that the ministry took such decision to end such irregularities that leads parents and students into unnecessary confusion.
