Golden boot race tight, Mgosi flops

Young African’s talismanic striker Amisi Tambwe is narrowly leading the pack of strikers with ten goals that include a hat-trick in a match against Stand United. Tambwe who won the golden boot award during his maiden premiership season with Simba in 2013/14, has been a regular contender thereafter but is yet to repeat the feat.

Just below Tambwe in the standings tally are Elias Maguri of Stand United and Simba’s Hamis Kiiza who have scored eighteen goals between them, nine apiece. However, Kiiza boasts of a hat-trick he notched during a match against relegation-haunted Kagera Sugar.

Yanga’s Zimbabwean striker Donald Ngoma has eight goals into his kit without a hat-trick to beat Azam’s Kipre Tcheche by a single goal.
Another Azam striker John Bocco tallies his number of goals with Simba’s rising star, Ibrahim Hajib on six. However, as contrasted to Bocco, Hajib has decorated his goals with a hat-trick he scored in a match against Majimaji when Simba went on the rampage to hand the Southern Tanzania’s team with 6-1 goals rout.

Tambwe, Bocco and Tcheche have previously won the golden boot awards and they look to be right in contention for the ongoing season.

In bizarre twist of events, Simba striker Musa Hassan who also won the golden boot award in the past, has so far failed to click without scoring any as the season comes close to half way mark.

Mgosi is still looking for is opening goal of the season as Simba fans and management still gives him the benefit of doubt to prove his worth. The unusual signing is brewing debate in the Simba Club whether he will survive the purge at the end of the season in May.

Out of form Mgosi has plenty to do if he needs to claim a jersey at the club which is still struggling to find solutions for missing silverwares on its third back-to-back season. Only three strikers who feature for the national soccer team, Taifa Stars, are competing with four other imports in the chase for the golden boot award.

Surprising as it seems, the previous season’s golden boot award winner Simon Msuva, who played a crucial role during Yanga’s title campaign has so far scored paltry three goals. Consistency and poor form has eluded Msuva who is unlikely to repeat his last season’s feat, unless he transforms his playing pattern in the second half of the season.
