Dar es Salaam Regional Education Officer, Alhaji Abdul Maulid, issued the call when he graced the 19th graduation ceremony hosted by Tusiime Primary School in Dar es Salaam last weekend.
Maulid said he was pleased with the various talents he saw at the school so he instructed other schools to follow suit by allocating time for students to engage in sports, dancing, and singing.
"I instruct the owners of primary and secondary schools to emulate Tusiime schools by prioritizing various sports to identify students' sports and music talents," he said.
Maulid revealed there are students with various talents as seen at Tusiime Primary School's graduation ceremony, adding that if the talents are developed, great future artists can be found in the country.
"I have witnessed Tusiime schools doing very well in sports and entertainment because they have shown their talented pupils, I call on other schools to emulate the schools," he said.
"Children's study days are known, so sometimes children should be left to play and leaders should realize that playing is part of studies, not a waste of time," he said.
He said sports make students healthy, adding their participation in sports will also contribute to doing well in their studies and examinations, so teachers should not see sports as a waste of time.
"If you do not give (students) time to play, you will destroy your students academically, they must have time to do other activities that give them joy like participation in sports," Maulid noted.
The ceremony witnessed a Tusiime Primary School's Standard Seven pupil showcasing his potential in soccer analysis, presenting his analysis on various issues in domestic soccer and English Premier League (EPL).
