Today we are going to look at more factors that could lead to one’s addiction to failure. The other major factor that leads to one’s addiction to failure in life is having a dream but not setting any goals.
Everybody has a desire to do something in life, a dream. But most people don’t know how to complete the process of dedicating themselves or having the discipline to do it.
If you have a desire you have to match it with dedication as well as discipline in order to get to where you want to go in life.
What happens is that many people have big dreams but they don’t set goals, and even when they do set goals, they fail to implement them because they look at their goals as a big giant staircase and somehow it seems to them that it’s impossible to achieve the goals.
It looks so hard, taking a long time, things not working as planned. It is too much work. These are just some of the conclusions that we jump to and finally become the reason for many people to quit going after their desired goals.
They want to get on top of the staircase, but when they do actually start climbing persistence, consistence and the understanding that it’s going to take a little longer time are lacking. They don’t realize that it doesn’t happen overnight and that in order for you to get there persistence, consistence and discipline are the major key factors that you need to possess.
When you have a dream you have to understand that it is just a dream - until you set the goals to attain it, and once you set your goals you are on your way and once you take that first step, just like climbing a staircase, take that first step and once you make that move look at the next step. Don’t look up because you might get discouraged; just one step at a time and before you know it you will find yourself on your way to the top.
You have to understand that it’s not going to be easy. Sometimes we do think that once you have a dream and goals there are no challenges that thought is a fraud most people want the convenience of the transformation to success without the inconveniences.
The inconvenience is part of the process. And whether you like it or not you will encounter them at one point or the other. And you can only go through them as its impossible to go around them or above them the only way you can overcome them is by going through them. Toughen up !!!
So my advice to this challenge is that as a dream is just a dream if there are no goals set to it so set your goals take one step at a time be persistent and consistent and take that walk of faith towards achieving that dream of yours because it’s possible and no dream is too big to achieve.
The other reason why so many people are addicted to failure is carelessness with money and this is a big problem we don’t plan on how we should spend our earnings.
I happen to know a person who once got a huge amount of money and I asked him what do you plan to do with that amount of money? And what he told me his plan was, I could not believe it, it’s one of those moments that something happens and you can’t believe what you just heard.
He confidently told me that, Ah! money comes and goes, once you get it spend it until the last penny and then go and search for more!! Until today I have never been able to understand whether he was on his right mind or not.
I understand that so many people do the very same mistake spending it all and go start searching for more. This applies to people who are employed as well now this group is even worse because they spend the whole salary before the end of the month and at the end of the month once they receive their payment, just the next day everything is finished, gone!
Paying the bills and debts and then the cycle goes again, this have become their lifestyle they never have anything left out to invest and save, living pay cheque to pay cheque or hand to mouth have become their lifestyle. What a terrible way of life!!
For other people, due to a lack of a plan they, spend their income on things that are not necessary. Once they have some money they are always looking for a way to spend it in anything being a new dress, a pair of shoes just anything simply because they have little money left on the side so they have to spend it.
It’s like how when you have an itch you have to scratch it; it’s the same way when these people have some money they just have to spend it their minds and heart will never stay at easy until the money is spent.
Look here if you spend it, it’s going to end take the word SPEND-SP= END .So if you use your income unnecessarily it’s going to end.
Another point that you have to understand is spending your income in things that you don’t need will lead you to spending things that you need one day.
There is a saying that most of the people use, life is short you only live once and enjoy while you can am here to tell you this today that of course life is short and we live only once but once is enough if you live it right.
So, what I want you to understand is that you have to have discipline with your income. Always save before spending and not otherwise and always try to find ways to invest no matter how small your income might be just invest it somewhere by so doing you are creating another stream of money and in order for you to be successful in life you have to have multiple streams of income. Don’t depend on one source only always find ways to creating more streams of income.
Another factor that contributes to people’s addiction to failure is spending time with people who are not going anywhere in life. Now I understand that in life we meet people, make friends some friends we grew up with we have known them all their lives and somehow it’s hard to move on from them. Understand this: you become who you associate with. That’s a true fact of life.
If you surround yourself with closed minded and negative people it’s just a matter of time before you start behaving and acting like them. No matter how strong and focused you might think you are just being around them will gradually start affecting your behaviour.
You just don’t wake up one day and start behaving like them it’s a gradual process and it happens automatically. I like a quote by Les Brown one of my role model he says, if you hang out with nine losers be sure to become the tenth, and if you surround yourself with nine great people you surely will become the tenth.
Even the Bible says that two can’t be together unless they have agreed with each other. And there is a saying that birds of the same feather flock together, just like the saying of the wise: show me your friends and I shall tell you your behaviour.
This shows a clue that whoever you surround yourself with is who you are, don’t just take it easy and as a simple quote they carry a tremendous meaning.
The people you surround yourself with their habits are like an automatic teacher that without you noticing you will become an expert in the behaviors of the people that you hang out with.
Let’s take an example of a person who hangs out with people who drink. For the first few weeks or months you might stay focused and order soft drinks while others take alcohol but gradually they will convince you to take one drink and then two and with time you will reach an extent that they don’t need to remind you anymore it becomes your habit and even being the one to call them to go out for drinks.
So, always mind the company that you surround yourself with. If you have got a dream and you want to achieve it surround yourself with people who think like you and behave like you, people who challenge you to step into your greatness.
Don’t hang on with people who are not going anywhere, Less Brown says the people who are going nowhere in life will rob your dream and that if you are the smartest in your group you need to get another group. Surround yourself with people whom you can learn from and grow, because it’s a necessity that you grow because if you stop growing then you start dying.
