What Scania’s 50yrs anniversary means to Sweden, Tanzania

The governments of Tanzania and Sweden, together with stakeholders in the automotive and transportation sector, have joined together to celebrate 50 years of SCANIA, a leading company in the production of transport vehicles, marking half a century -

- since the company, which originated in Sweden, entered the Tanzanian market.

Speaking at the celebration event marking 50 years of SCANIA in the country, the minister of works and transport Professor Makame Mbarawa said that the cooperation between two countries has enabled innovation and significant development for many years.

"I congratulate SCANIA and all its employees for their great work in strengthening the relations between our countries. This shows the strength of cooperation. I urge them to continue to focus on the quality of their work. I am particularly impressed by these natural gas-powered vehicles, which will reduce operating costs and air pollution," said Professor Mbarawa.

"The government is considering the possibility of introducing a subsidy program to encourage more people to buy vehicles that use natural gas. This will help us," he added.

The Swedish Ambassador to Tanzania, Charlotta Ozaki Macias, speaking at the commemoration event held in Dar es Salaam, congratulated SCANIA, saying it is unique for a company to last for 50 years in the Tanzanian market.

"I congratulate SCANIA for reaching 50 years in the country, and it is unique to last in the market for all those years. Sweden and Tanzania have a long history and great working relationships in many areas of development such as democracy, human rights, infrastructure, and so on. One of my goals as an ambassador is to see increased trade and investment between our two nations, and I believe that SCANIA has an important role to play in this cooperation in the area of ensuring that Tanzania moves towards a green economy," she said.

The 50th-anniversary celebration event in Tanzania was attended by various people who gathered to learn about SCANIA's journey in the transport sector in Tanzania, with the Managing Director of Scania Tanzania, Lars Eklund, stressing that they continue to look for investment opportunities in the country to promote Tanzania's development.
