NMB Bank opens branch in Kigoma

NMB Bank Tanzania Limited has finally responded to the long standing request by residents of Kakonko District in Kigoma Region to have the Bank`s services closer to them by opening a branch.

Kigoma Regional Commissioner, Issa Machibya (l) and Kakonko District Commissioner, Toima Kiroya, launch a newly built NMB Bank Kakonko branch

This has come as a relief to thousands of NMB Bank customers and non-customers living within Kakonko District and beyond who had to travel to the district headquarters to access banking services.

In his statement issued to ‘The Guardian’ yesterday, Kigoma Regional Commissioner Col (rtd) Issa Machibya commended the efforts made by the bank saying they will help people in the district to stop travelling to other districts looking for the services.

Col Machibya also said that residents of Kakonko District used to travel about 300 kilometres from their homes to look for bank services in Kigoma municipality and sometimes in other districts.

“NMB Bank branch in Kakonko District would reduce the long distances travelled by people while possessing a lot of money. We thank them because people will no longer transport money, but use this nearby branch to withdraw and deposit their money,” he said.

For his part, NMB Western Zone Leon Ngowi said the bank’s new branch at Kakonko District will be the 175th.

Ngowi also said that the branch is providing all financial services such as withdrawing money, depositing, opening bank accounts, loan services, providing money transactions as well as currency exchange services.

“Apart from opening the branch in Kakonko District we have also provided school desks which costs 5m/- for primary schools in Kakonko District as well as giving beds to the district hospital to ensure that patients get comfortable bed rest,” he said.

However, NMB is one of the largest banks in Tanzania, both when ranked by customer base and branch network, with over 150 branches located in more than 95 percent of the country's districts.
