Cloud computing otherwise known as on-demand computing, is a type of computing that relies on sharing computing resources rather than having local servers or personal devices to handle applications.
“This level of agility can give businesses using cloud computing a real advantage over competitors,” said Kisamba Tambwe, the head of Business at Microsoft Eastern and South Africa.
Speaking at the capacity building seminar on cloud computing organized by Microsoft in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Kisambi explained that the system provides users and enterprises with various capabilities to store and process their data anywhere and increase volume output or productivity with fewer people.
He added that with cloud computing, more work are done in less time with less people and that it improves accessibility because of flexibility in its access anytime and anywhere, making work much easier.
He explained that cloud computing centralizes file storage but gives everyone access to see an appropriate version.
He also said the system provides customers with greater security because the company’s or organisation’s data stored in the cloud, can be accessed without a problem but can also be remotely wiped off in case of a loss of laptop to prevent it from getting in the wrong hands.
Speaking at the same venue, Robin Njiro, the Regional Manager, Channel and Midmarket at Microsoft East and Southern Africa explained that with cloud computing the customers will only focus on their main job only.
“Cloud computing is available at much cheaper rates and can significantly lower the company’s IT expenses,” he stressed
