Cheap solar power campaign targeting rural consumers launched

WITH as little as 999/- per day payment, rural households in Tabora, Dodoma, Kagera and Pwani can have their homes powered by German made solar systems.

Mobisol Tanzania said its campaign will see rural households being connected to affordable solar power following its launching yesterday in Tabora region. It will enable rural households to pay a modest fee to acquire solar system for their homes.

Mobisol Marketing Manager Allan Rwechungura said in Dar es Salaam that the campaign targets to improve lives of hundreds of thousands of Tanzanians living in off grid areas - particularly those in rural areas where power supply is still a problem.

“This new campaign is part of our efforts to complement the government’s ambitious plan to ensure that the rural population has access to affordable power. We have reduced our connection cost and extended our convenient payment system that enables people to pay in installments,” Rwechungura said.

He further noted that the company has revised its payment plan offer to enable customers to pay as little as 999/- per day to own a high quality solar power system at their homes backed by free servicing and after sales warranty.

The system sizes offered start at 80W, which is already bigger than most other household oriented solar home systems in the region, and are available in 120W and up to 200W. The systems can illuminate entire households with many efficient lights and power television sets, laptops, refridgerators and charge cell phones.

“One of our objectives is to enable children studying in rural areas where there is no power to have light which empowers them to improve their educational performance. We are also focusing on conserving the environment,” Rwechungura noted.

The Mobisol Manager also noted that the company is committed to see its services accessed by more people within this year as its expansion program targets Kagera, Tabora, Dodoma and Pwani regions in the first phase.

Until the end of last year, Mobisol had already provided clean, reliable solar power to over 35,000 households in Tanzania and the neighbouring country of Rwanda, the company said in a recent statement.

Mobisol’s aim is to provide clean, affordable and reliable electricity to millions of households in low-income communities – stimulating economic and social development while simultaneously contributing to global environmental protection.

Mobisol combines generating power from solar energy sources with innovative mobile technology and IT solutions, as well as a comprehensive customer service plan.
