Mwanza residents asked to visit local tourist sites to boost tourism

MWANZA residents have been asked to develop a culture of domestic tourism and visit the regions’ existing tourist sites.

Saa Nane Island National Park

Saa Nane Island National Park chief Walden Abel Mtui while speaking to The Guardian cited Saa Nane National Park as one of the attraction sites that has plenty of things to offer not only to foreigners but also local tourists.

He says the park which is located in Lake Victoria has unique attractions in its pristine sanctuary covering an estimated 2.18 square kilometres.

He cited bird watching, boat cruising as well as wildlife watching and sport fishing as some of the many things that local tourists can enjoy while in the park. Mtui also said the island boasts of 92 different types of bird species.

By visiting the park, Mtui says the local tourists will go a long way in boosting the numbers, which currently stand at between 10,000 to 11,000 annually.

He points out that plans are underway to start advertising the park on international platforms saying that currently, the park was only attracting tourists from East Africa.

Saanane Island National Park is situated less than one nautical mile in Lake Victoria from Mwanza City centre and is reachable by boat.
